This piece is a model of a larger installation, and an intervention in itself, meant to communicate with the geological matter of the earth as it moves beneath us. Like a seismic sensor, this totem catches the vibrations of stones as they shear through the earth, and transmits them to the user's hands after a translation through its own body. The top surface is rippled to receive these signals as they emerge from the ground below, and the bottom is polished smooth to fit naturally and comfortably in the hand as the user establishes their connection to this unique type of existence. In holding this totem you may join that telluric journey from afar, feel the slow crushing of stone against stone, and capture the tremors sent out in your own hands, all through the soft touch of new life.
