This is the second in a series of sculptures which attempt to facilitate a connection between people and the geological matter of the earth. Activated by touch, but always listening, this piece of alabaster is shaped to act as an antenna which receives vibrations released by the constant tectonic drama that occurs under our feet. The piece is dialectical in this way, as the rippled upper surface captures these signals and the smoothed underside transmits them to human hands. But between those surfaces is proof that we can feel something other than this duality, that there can be a synthesis of biological and geological life on earth and beyond. This sculpture differs from the first in this series as alabaster has a tighter grain structure than soapstone, which, coupled with the change in overall form, contributes to a sensitivity to higher frequencies of vibration.
